Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Civil Litigation Paralegal to join our growing law firm in Kansas City, MO. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting attorneys through all phases of civil litigation, including case management, discovery, trial preparation, and client communication. This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple deadlines, and a commitment to providing exceptional client service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with all aspects of civil litigation matters from intake through trial and appeal.
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, and correspondence.
- Manage case files, maintain litigation calendars, and track critical deadlines.
- Coordinate and organize document production, review, and management.
- Conduct factual investigations and legal research using online databases and court resources.
- Prepare deposition summaries, medical record summaries, and witness files.
- Draft discovery responses and organize exhibits for hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials.
- E-file documents with Missouri and Kansas state courts and federal courts, as required.
- Coordinate scheduling with clients, opposing counsel, expert witnesses, and court personnel.
- Communicate professionally with clients regarding case status, document requests, and scheduling matters.
- Assist with trial preparation, including preparing trial notebooks, exhibits, witness lists, and jury instructions.
- Review and analyze records, contracts, and other case-related documents.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information and adhere to all ethical and professional standards.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of civil litigation paralegal experience.
- Knowledge of Missouri and Kansas court rules, procedures, and filing requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal case management software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in personal injury, commercial litigation, employment law, insurance defense, construction litigation, or general civil litigation.
- Experience with electronic discovery (e-discovery) platforms.
- Missouri Notary Public commission or willingness to obtain one.
